VLSC's proposed charter amendment will not be placed on November ballot

It’s the end of the road for a ballot initiative sponsored by the Volunteer Life Saving Corps. In a ruling issued Aug. 31 by Circuit Court Judge Katie Dearing, a proposed charter amendment to determine the future of the volunteer organization will not be placed on the November ballot.

Jacksonville Beach may change trash collection schedule

Garbage collection could shift to once a week in Jacksonville Beach. The current contract expires in February, and city staff will seek proposals that could mean a new provider and collection schedule. The City Council discussed the potential change in services during a recent briefing.

Jax Beach looks to change special events policy

Jacksonville Beach officials are working to clean up the city’s special events policy. A proposed series of revisions will address such issues as length of events, alcohol sales and whether to allow ticketed events that attract higher quality entertainment at the SeaWalk Pavilion.

St. Johns County issues Labor Day weekend beach update

St. Johns County will provide a number of beach services to residents during the Labor Day weekend. Driving on the Beach Vehicles are permitted on the beach between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Beach passes are required for vehicle access. Passes can be purchased with cash at any beach access ramp.

Shooting at short-term rental in Jax Beach leaves man dead

Jacksonville Beach police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead during a family party being held at a short-term rental property. According to police, officers responded to a report of gunshots Aug. 25 around 11:10 p.m.
