July recognized as Lakes Appreciation Month

Florida has more than 4,200 natural lakes, and nearly 1,500 of those are within the boundaries of the St. Johns River Water Management District.

VLSC seeks change in city charter

The Volunteer Life Saving Corps is seeking to amend the Jacksonville Beach City Charter to return to staffing the oceanfront and restore operations at the American Red Cross Lifeguard Station. First, the VLSC must gain enough public support to place the proposed amendment on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Neptune Beach moves to change Land Development Code

Neptune Beach officials took a big step July 5 toward memorializing a series of changes to the city’s Land Development Code. The council voted unanimously to approve the amendments on the first reading. City officials will not take action on the second reading until Aug. 1.

Reopening of Jax Beach Pier marked with ribbon-cutting

Local dignitaries gathered Wednesday morning to celebrate the long-awaited reopening of the Jacksonville Beach Pier.

Lighting strike closes Ponte Vedra Beach library

The Ponte Vedra Beach Branch of the St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS), 101 Library Blvd., is temporarily closed for emergency repairs due to damage caused by a lightning strike on the afternoon of Friday, July 1.

Ponte Vedra Home care is now Beaches Home Care

Nearly nine years after Ponte Vedra Home Care opened its doors to serve the local community, the organization has changed its corporate name to Beaches Home Care. CEO Seth Movsovitz said that the company had been planning this name change along with other strategy changes.

Jax Beach council votes 'no' on right-of-way request

A divided council voted down a request to give up a portion of the right-of-way at 1st and 2nd Avenues North to accommodate a new 38-unit townhome development in Jacksonville Beach.
