Survey under way for Atlantic Beach police body cameras

Atlantic Beach police are conducting a survey to measure the public’s support of body cameras. Community satisfaction is among the goals of the 2022 Strategic Plan, and the survey will provide feedback to help evaluate the body camera program.

Jacksonville Beach residents seek help on short-term rentals

Jacksonville Beach residents are asking officials to clamp down on short-term vacation rentals in the wake of a recent fatal shooting on a residential street. Last month, military veteran Shawn Davis Jr., 32, was shot multiple times in the 1600 block of Ocean Pond Court.

Gulliford receives JAX Chamber award

Bill Gulliford, a former Atlantic Beach mayor and Jacksonville City Council member, was honored Sept. 8 with the Walter R. Murr Memorial Award for service from the JAX Chamber Beaches Division. This was for his work to address the opioid crisis in Northeast Florida.

Above-average rainfall in August still leaves SJRWMD’s southern region abnormally dry

While some areas in the central and northern region of the St. Johns River Water Management District received more than nine inches of rain, southern portions of the district, including parts of Brevard, Indian River, Okeechobee and Osceola counties, were left abnormally dry as reported in the U.S.

Former Jacksonville Beach city attorney sentenced to probation for child abuse

The former city attorney of Jacksonville Beach was sentenced Sept. 9 on lesser charges of child abuse two years after his resignation for inappropriate contact with a minor. Circuit Court Judge London Kite sentenced Christopher Ambrosio, 49, to serve five years probation with no prison time.

St. Johns County Library presents 'human book' program

The St. Johns County Public Library System, in partnership with the St. Johns Cultural Council and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine, is presenting “The Living Library” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, in The Waterworks, 184 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine.

St. Johns County announces residential curbside collection survey

St. Johns County provides residents with garbage, recycling and yard waste services. The current contracts expire in July 2024, and the county is seeking input from residents on future services for residential curbside collection.
