VLSC holds 89th Ocean Marathon

The Volunteer Life Saving Corps held its 89th annual Ocean Marathon July 30. Twenty-four swimmers participated and four records were set. Cleve Cooney extended his record of wins to 13 and his oldest winning swimmer record to 55.

Forecast looks wide open for inshore, offshore fishing

As we move into the first weekend of August, the forecast looks wide open for both inshore and offshore, with light to moderate east to southeast winds and not much swell in the forecast. It will be hot, but so should the fishing! Inshore the fishing has been steady this week.

New pickleball organization coming to beaches

A new pickleball non-profit organization headquartered in Jacksonville Beach is  launching Monday, Aug. 8. First Dink was created to foster personal growth, build self-confidence, and provide inspiration and leadership opportunities among youth.

East coast blue crab trap closures start Aug. 10 

Recreational and commercial blue crab traps must be removed from certain state waters on the east coast of Florida prior to Aug. 10, the first day of two 10-day trap closures occurring this month.

Oh Snap! Red Snapper Fishing Tournament winners announced

The second annual Oh Snap! Red Snapper Fishing Tournament concluded with a multitude of local anglers participating in the two-day July tournament that coincided with the NOAA Fisheries recreational Atlantic red snapper season.

Advice for those looking to land more kingfish

The weekend in front of us is shaping up to be another nice one to get out on the water. The forecast is showing our normal SE sea breeze pattern with slightly lower chances of afternoon thunderstorms over the next few days.

Florida Chamber Music Project to begin 10th season

The Florida Chamber Music Project (FCMP) will open its 10th season Sept. 18 at the Beaches Museum Chapel at the Beaches Museum, 505 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach.

Spiny lobster seasons start soon

The 2022 spiny lobster season opens with the two-day recreational mini-season July 27 and 28, followed by the regular commercial and recreational lobster season, which starts Aug. 6 and runs through March 31, 2023.
