Sheepshead, flounder and more seen at the pier

It’s looking like a great weekend ahead for getting out and enjoying the waterways that make us love living in North Florida. There’s the usual chance for afternoon thunderstorms, but the wind forecast looks good, and the swell isn’t bad.

Pier reopens for fishing

The newly-renovated Jacksonville Beach Pier reopened for fishing following a soft launch for pedestrian traffic only. The pier will be free and open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with public restrooms available in the adjacent beach parking lot.

Rain relieves Northeast Florida of abnormally dry conditions

Recent rainfall throughout the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 18-county region has relieved portions of Northeast Florida that had been abnormally dry after below-average rainfall in June.

Red snapper season is this weekend

One day before snapper season and all through the house, not an angler was sleeping, just refreshing the wind forecast.

2022 Red Snapper Fishing Tournament announced

Oh Snap! Fishing recently announced its second annual Red Snapper Fishing Tournament will be held on July 8 and 9, coinciding with the NOAA Fisheries recreational Atlantic red snapper season.

Keep an eye on the sky and the radar

The sweltering heat and humidity of our sub-tropical summers have settled in with the typical pattern of southeast winds, an afternoon sea breeze, and short period wind swell lumping up the ocean. With the right size boat or the right amount of patience in a smaller one, you can poke out off shore.
