Fletcher evens record at 2-2

Fletcher High School hosted rival Andrew Jackson High Sept. 9. Jackson scored early in the game to lead 7-0. They never scored again in regulation time due to Fletcher's defense.

Douglas C. Crane Boat Ramp to temporarily close

St. Johns County Public Works will temporarily close the Douglas C. Crane Boat Ramp for improvements beginning Oct. 3. The boat ramp will reopen in spring 2023, weather permitting. Improvements include:     •    Widening and paving the existing entrance to accommodate two-way traffic.

Jax Beach grants approval for two-day Florida Fin Fest

The second annual Florida Fin Fest will return to Jacksonville Beach following the approval of a request for a special exception. On Sept. 6, the City Council granted the request for a two-day event Sept.

Fletcher takes down Chiles, falls to Jackson

Fletcher High School defeated Tallahassee Chiles 30-28 in an exciting finish Sept. 2. The score was tied 14-14 at halftime, with Anthony Vaglienti scoring both touchdowns for the Senators. Both teams scored two touchdowns in the second half. Vaglienti scored again for Fletcher, as did Dre Harold.

Join a guided family seining activity Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM). Learn about the animals and their roles in Guana Lake by pulling a seine net and collecting species of fish, crabs and other marine life.

Now is a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors

While the heat and humidity haven’t seemed to notice yet, the first week of September heralds the shift towards fall on the First Coast. The Mullet run is on, inshore fishing is improving, and hunting season is rapidly approaching.

Fletcher falls in close game

Mandarin stunned Fletcher Aug. 26 when the Mustangs received the ball on the first kickoff of the game and ran it back 92 yards for a touchdown. Fletcher blocked the extra point, making the game 6-0. Fletcher struggled in the first half, trailing 27-7 at halftime.
