Family seining will be held at GTM Research Reserve

A guided family seining activity will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Participants can pull a seine net in Guana Lake to collect fish, crabs and other marine life. The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.

Fletcher has homecoming parade

On Oct. 24, Fletcher High School homecoming king and queen candidates showcased their club or sport allegiance, and threw out candy, during the homecoming parade. Cars were decorated and the candidates were dressed up. The theme was the '80s.

Pier fishing has been stellar

The beach bite has just kept heating up as the water temperatures along the coast slowly settle toward wintertime. The pompano fishing this week was as good as it gets from the reports I heard. The bites have been good all along the First Coast from Matanzas to Nassau.
The recent annual Flounder Pounder was a huge success in raising more than a million dollars for the Jacksonville School for Autism. Local Captain Jon Houston (left) took home the win with a 11.03-pound aggregate, while Kelsey Carter (center) secured the women’s division with 5.14-pound fish. Bite is picking up along the beach

As the days get shorter, the fishing has been getting better for local anglers. The bite is really picking up along the beach; the inshore action has been steady, and off shore we had some great reports. For both inshore and off shore, the transition from summer patterns into fall is well underway.
