FWC announces 2022 Lionfish Challenge

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently announced the 2022 Lionfish Challenge tournament, which kicked off May 20 and ends Sept. 6. The Lionfish Challenge is a summer-long lionfish tournament open to competitors around the state of Florida.

Parents' Night Out set for May 28

Palatka Blue Crab Festival features live music and entertainment

The Palatka Blue Crab Festival will be held Friday, May 27, from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. in downtown Palatka, 210 St. Johns Ave. Admission and parking are free.

Atlantic Beach Athletic Association hosts Battle of the Coaches

The Atlantic Beach Athletic Association Battle of the Coaches was held May 14 on US Assure Field. The fundraiser included player-assigned walk-up songs to their coaches, and requiring their coaches to skip around the bases. Proceeds will benefit the Atlantic Beach Breakers All-Star teams.

Many fish varieties available as water warms up

Mahi, grouper, tuna, kingfish, cob, tarpon, jacks, sharks – it’s May, and the water is alive again from the inlets to the stream. Unfortunately, unless you like to surf, the ocean has been closed for the last week, but luckily the forecast ahead looks more promising.

April showers brought above-average rainfall to most of SJRWMD's southern region

Two consecutive months of above-average rainfall in Northeast Florida still leaves parts of the St. Johns River Water Management District’s southern region (Brevard, Indian River, Osceola and Okeechobee) abnormally dry, as reported in the U.S. Drought Monitor.
