Grouper, hogfish and blueline tilefish seasons reopen May 1 in Atlantic

The following species will reopen to recreational harvest May 1 in Florida state and federal waters of the Atlantic: hogfish; blueline tilefish; gag, black, red, yellowmouth and yellowfin grouper; scamp; red hind; rock hind; coney; and graysby. Hogfish will remain open through Oct.

PVHS wins girls lacrosse district title

The Ponte Vedra High School Girls’ Lacrosse team took on two District 2 opponents recently to successfully defend their District Title. On April 12, the Lady Sharks played at home in the Shark Tank against Sandalwood in the district semi-final game.

57-day 2022 Gulf red snapper recreational season announced

On April 21, Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the 2022 Gulf red snapper recreational season which will total 57 days, the longest season since the state assumed management of red snapper and will include both a summer and fall season.

Seasonal changes are apparent inshore

It’s been a nice mild spring week so far on the First Coast – our local waters are warming up quickly, and the fishing is hot! The forecast is calling for a steady blow out of the southeast for the weekend, with our air temps hitting the 80s again by the start of next week.

FWC to meet May 3 and 4 in Gainesville

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will meet May 3 and 4 at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, 1714 SW 34th St., Gainesville. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. each day and is open to the public.

Pompano bite is going strong

What a welcome change in weather over this week; the wind backed off  and finally gave us a window that lined up with the weekend. We’ve had great conditions to get out on the water a few days this week, and the fishing has been fantastic.

Spring is feeling like it’s approaching full swing here in North Florida. The offshore bite is great, the beaches are showing signs of life, sheepshead and drum are chewing, and then, of course, the wind is blowing.
