More than $60 million awarded to St. Johns County for emergency beach repairs

Opening of the Beaches parade is Sunday

The Opening of the Beaches parade will take place in Jacksonville Beach Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. The parade will start at 5th Avenue North and 2nd Street. The parade will travel north to 11th Avenue North and 2nd Street, then turn east toward the ocean.

St. Johns County COVID-19 testing site closing April 22

Effective 4 p.m. on Friday, April 22, the NOMI Health COVID-19 testing site at the St. Johns County Wind Mitigation Building will no longer be operational due to a lack of sufficient federal funding.

Public Library offers free film screening at The Waterworks

The St. Johns County Public Library System, in partnership with the St. Johns Cultural Council and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine, is presenting a special screening of the film “Soul of a People” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, in The Waterworks, 184 San Marco Blvd.

Sunshine Playground is open

The grand opening of the newly-renovated Sunshine Playground in Jacksonville Beach was held April 15 at South Beach Park. Built in 2001, Sunshine Playground was demolished in November to make way for new, more sustainable equipment.

Vigil set to help shed light on Jacksonville Beach murder

A candlelight vigil will be held April 19 to help shed more light on the murder of a young husband and father of four who was gunned down in Jacksonville Beach. Kirsten Bridegan will host the vigil at 7:30 p.m. at South Beach Park. The public is invited to attend.

Beaches Go Green hosts cleanup

Beaches Go Green recently teamed up with WJXT Positively Jax for a cleanup event. Beaches Go Green shifted the focus away from the Beaches, which tend to get a lot of attention, to the streets, sidewalks, parking lots and landscape beds adjacent to the beaches for this event.

Students serve as 'Mayors for a Day' in Atlantic Beach

Atlantic Beach Elementary School students Dani White and Fletcher Moody fulfilled their duties as city of Atlantic Beach “Mayors for a Day” April 11. They toured city facilities, met with city leaders and banged the gavel at a City Commission meeting.
