Fletcher softball season ends with district loss

Although Fletcher High’s softball season ended with a 6-5 loss to First Coast in April 11’s opening round of the District 2-8A tournament, the regular season finale may have been a preview of things to come for the young team.

Skate and surf event held

The 9th annual Matt "Rasta" Gray memorial skate and surf event took place April 8 and 9 in Atlantic Beach. The skateboarding portion was at Oceanside Rotary Skate Park and included competitors at all levels.

Jacksonville Sharks stumble in season opener

A series of fourth-quarter miscues proved costly for the Jacksonville Sharks April 2, as the team fell to the LA KISS, 64-39, in the 2016 season opener at Honda Center. The pivotal stretch of the game came early in the fourth, as Jacksonville (0-1) trailed by a 47-39 count entering the final period.

Wanda Wiggins joins dressage century club

Wanda Wiggins just accomplished one of the rarest feats in equestrian competition. With her long-time equine partner Dusine, Wiggins joined The Dressage Foundation’s Century Club – a club of horse and rider pairs whose combined age totals 100 years or more.

Builders Classic golf tournament is April 25 

Beaches Habitat for Humanity and Oceanside Rotary announced the 17th annual golf tournament, which is known as the Builders Classic, on Monday, April 25, at Atlantic Beach Country Club.  The tournament benefits affordable housing and charitable giving at the Beaches.

Sassy Tappers bring 'A Night at the Theatre'

The Sassy Tappers of the Neptune Beach Activity Center will perform their newest show, “A Night at the Theatre,” April 19. The show, choreographed by Patty Zipperer, will be presented at 10:30 a.m. at the Bennie Furlong Senior Center, located at 281 S. 19th Ave. in Jacksonville Beach.

Fletcher slams Creekside in softball

The Fletcher High School Senators pounded out 10 hits, including three for extra bases, in April 4’s 7-1 victory over the Creekside Knights.

Beaches Chapel School Run with the Lions 5K is April 9

Beaches Chapel School is hosting the ninth annual Run with the Lions 5K and 1-mile race on Saturday, April 9, beginning at 8 a.m.   Runners will start at 610 Florida Blvd. and will run throughout Neptune Beach.  This is a fund raiser for a new playground, and 1st Place Sports will host the race.

Armada FC launches Blue and Bold campaign

The Jacksonville Armada FC officially revealed its new “Blue and Bold” campaign Monday ahead of the 2016 North American Soccer League regular season. The campaign incorporates the pride that goes along with Jacksonville’s reputation for being the “Bold New City of the South.
