Springtime at Guana means gator trout

Last week was tough fishing for many anglers with the wind gusts nearing 30 mph and the wave heights climbing to almost 11 feet.    However, a few were lucky enough to find a break in the weather.

Sandcastle Contest is Saturday

The 40th annual Sandcastle Contest will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on the beach at the end of Beach Boulevard. Spaces are still available in some of the categories, and registration is open at the Jacksonville Beach Recreation Department until 4 p.m. Friday. Call 247-6236 for information.

Christ Church presents Peter Pan

An adaptation of the classic tale Peter Pan is featured at Christ Episcopal Church. Follow characters Peter Pan, Wendy, Tink and Captain Hook in this timeless story newly adapted for the stage by Jason Woods, featuring new songs, music and one very large crocodile. The show runs through April 24.

Big WT was a success in Jacksonville Beach

I recently had the opportunity to attend the World’s Largest Whiting Tournament, The Big WT, hosted monthly here in Jacksonville Beach at the Ritz Bar.  The whiting are on fire in the surf, folks! A total of 63 anglers weighed in fish, with Noel Kuhn taking home first place and over $800 with a 30.

Sixth straight district title for Ponte Vedra boys lacrosse

While Nease High proved a pesky adversary in April 7’s District 6 championship game, the Ponte Vedra High boys lacrosse team used a seven-goal barrage late in the third quarter and into the fourth to prevail 19-11 and win its sixth consecutive district crown.
