Senators open Parker tourney with win

Ryan Ayrey got Fletcher off to a good start with a first-inning solo home run to set the tone as the Senators rolled to a 6-2 victory over Englewood in March 21’s opening round of the Dre Deleon Memorial baseball tournament at Parker High.

Big inning lifts Ponte Vedra to district victory

A six-run sixth inning helped Ponte Vedra High break open a tight ballgame March 15 at the Shark Tank, resulting in a 10-2 softball victory over district rival Menendez. The visiting Falcons got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning.

A ritual dating back millions of years takes place again this spring on Florida beaches. Spring marks horseshoe crabs’ mating season, and biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) want the public’s help identifying spawning sites.

Fletcher boys place seventh in track meet

In the recent Gateway Conference boys meet, Fletcher High accrued 33.5 points and finished in seventh place amongst 17 competing schools. Tyriq Burns ran to a third-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles, crossing the line in 15.18 seconds.

Ponte Vedra baseball upended by Ridgeview

After a week in which it lost three straight games, including a pair of district showdowns, the Ponte Vedra High baseball team looked to right the ship last week. In a home-and-home series against District 4-6A foe Ridgeview March 9 and10, PV fell 8-5 on the road and 4-3 at Shark Park.
