Fletcher defeats Mandarin 9-8 in boys lacrosse

In a district battle Feb. 23 at Jack Taylor Stadium, the Senators edged the visiting Mustangs for a key victory. With four goals in the game’s opening two minutes, Mandarin surged ahead early but saw Fletcher battle back with a pair of goals to make it a 4-2 game at the half.

Fletcher High baseball earns first wins of season

After struggling with five straight losses to open the season, Fletcher High baseball put a pair of run-rule wins on the board last week by defeating Lee 12-2 and First Coast 12-0.

Sharks suffer first softball defeat

Heading into Monday night’s game against Orange Park, Ponte Vedra High softball had been perfect on the season in stacking up eight victories without a loss.

Jason Marsalis Quartet performs at the UNF Fine Arts Center

The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet and the UNF Jazz Ensemble 1 will perform at 7:30 p.m. today in the UNF Fine Arts Center’s Robinson Theater. The free concert is a joint collaboration between the Beaches Fine Arts Series and the UNF Great American Jazz Series. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.

Some nice redfish and flounder caught

William Goodling and Terry McCue took the Dixie out on Sunday of last week for one redfish, some puppy black drum and sheepshead along with two 20-inch red snapper. All of their fish were caught in 40 feet of water. On Monday, Feb.

Action Trackchairs donated to FWC

Anglers, hunters and other outdoor recreation enthusiasts with impairments will have greater access to the outdoors, thanks to a group of partners who have pledged to donate Action Trackchairs to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Transition accent patio trees back into landscape

A few seasons ago, I purchased a Weeping Yaupon Holly, which is native to our region, to place in a moderately large patio container in which I enjoy keeping vertical evergreens to accent the entrance to a bridge over our koi pond.
