Ponte Vedra Woman's Club teams up with jeweler

The Ponte Vedra Woman’s Club will host a David Yurman Gemstone Challenge at Underwood Jewelers on Feb. 11 from 6-8 p.m., offering guests a chance to win a $1,500 gift certificate. During the event, guests will guess the number of gems to win the gift certificate.

Jacksonville Beach skateboard park work to start in spring

Construction for a skateboard park at Sunshine Park in south Jacksonville Beach will likely begin this spring. Plans have been modified slightly as a smaller, second skate bowl, planned close to South Beach Parkway, will not be built after the design-build team raised some safety concerns.

Boaters advised to use caution near Corps dredging work

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Jacksonville District is advising the public to use caution in the waterways at Mile Point on the St. Johns River as heavy construction is underway in the Chicopit Bay and Helen Cooper Floyd Park area near the Mayport Naval Station.

Ponte Vedra High cheerleaders have record-setting season

After placing at Regionals last month, the Ponte Vedra High School Varsity Cheerleading Team earned a trip to the  FHSAA State Championship recently at the USF SunDome in Tampa. They placed first in semi-finals and went on to place fourth in the finals.

Chariots of Fur is Saturday

The 2016 Chariots of Fur Beach Run and Festival will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Jacksonville Beach SeaWalk Pavilion, 75 1st St. N. This is an annual fund-raising event that benefits local nonprofit St.

Fletcher and Ponte Vedra land on top in boys basketball

Fletcher 58, Sandalwood 53 The host Senators staged a furious comeback midway through the third quarter, erasing an 18-point deficit to emerge with a victory last Thursday night. Fletcher scored 18 points in the third quarter and 29 in the fourth.

Last Friday night at Clay High, the Sharks won the District 5-5A championship with a lopsided victory over the Falcons. Rachel Aspinwall led PV with 17 points while Christi Begemann added 13.
