Knights upend Senators in playoffs

In a tough, physical battle featuring two of the area’s premier teams, Fletcher High girls soccer was eliminated from the playoffs with a 3-1 regional semifinal loss to Creekside Jan. 26.

Another district title for PV boys soccer

Ponte Vedra High boys soccer has faced little adversity all season in running its record to a perfect 20-0. Sure, there was a tough game in Tallahassee against Vero Beach in the final of the Capital City Classic tournament on Dec. 12 but the Sharks still emerged with a 2-0 victory.

Player's Club aims to add bus loop

The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) has received an Individual Environment Resource Permit Application to widen the Players Club's existing clubhouse service drive road and add pavement and a bus loop.

Hunter safety Internet-completion courses offered

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering free hunter safety Internet-completion courses in five counties in February. Students who have taken the online course and wish to complete the classroom portion must bring the online-completion report with them.

Beaches Soccer League registration continues

Beaches Soccer League is conducting registration through Jan. 31 for the spring season at Soccer Stop, 13799 Beach Blvd. BSL offers recreational soccer teams for players from Pre-K (must have turned four years old by Sept. 1, 2015) through fourth grade.

Plantation opens croquet course

The Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach unveiled its new amenities park, Plantation Commons, Jan. 17. The park features a Croquet Lawn, playground, pavilion and open space. Approximately 100 members of The Plantation attended a special ribbon cutting celebration.

JBBA registration open for spring baseball season

Registration is now open for the Jacksonville Beach Baseball Association (JBBA)’s 2016 spring baseball season. JBBA is located at Wingate Park (361 Penman Road S.) and offers baseball to all children ages 4-16. The cost is $120 per player, which includes a full uniform.

Jaguars to coach in Senior Bowl

The coaching staffs of the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars have been selected by the NFL to coach the 2016 Reese’s Senior Bowl Jan. 25-30 in Mobile, Ala.

Winter Beach Run is set

The 41st annual Winter Beach Run will take place Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at the SeaWalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach. Sponsored by JTC Running and 1st Place Sports, the event features a 10-mile and five-mile run followed by a post-race celebration at the Seawalk Pavilion.
