Fletcher's DeLay scores victory in track and field

Fletcher High’s Kayley DeLay won the girls 3,200-meter run and placed second in the 1,600 meters during the Region 1-4A meet last Thursday at Lake Minneola High School in Clermont. DeLay, a junior, won the 3,200 with a time 10:59.43 and was the only competitor to break 11 minutes.

FWC launches art contest

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Audubon Florida have launched an art contest for kids to celebrate moms while raising awareness about beach-nesting shorebirds and seabirds in Florida.

Fletcher girls lacrosse team falls in playoff opener

Fletcher High’s girls lacrosse season came to an end in April 15’s opening round of the state playoffs as the host Blue Devils jumped out to a big first-half lead and never trailed en route to a 16-7 victory.

Fletcher High’s Kayley DeLay won the girls 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races in the District 1-4A meet April 13 at Flagler Palm Coast, while Naajizdah Nichols leaped 16, feet 10 inches to win the long jump. DeLay completed the 1,600 in 5:05.
The Jacksonville Science Festival Exploration and ARTS Camp will be held at The Foundation Academy, 3675 San Pablo Road S., Jacksonville. Fletcher's baseball season ends

An opening-round 2-0 loss to First Coast in the District 2-8A tournament April 18 spelled the end of the season for Fletcher baseball. The Buccaneers plated a run in the top of the first and one more in the third.

Sawgrass Village work to be done by Players

Started in February of 2015, the major part of Phase 2 of the Sawgrass Village Shopping Center development will be completed by the week of May 9 – just in time for The Players Championship.

Clay blanks Ponte Vedra in softball

Ponte Vedra High’s softball bats were silent in April 13’s District 4-6A championship game 6-0 loss to Clay. Blue Devils starter Ashley Stokes tossed a complete-game no-hitter as Clay (21-4) claimed the district title and was set to host Ed White High to open the state playoffs April 20.

Tyriq Burns’ victory in the 300-meter hurdles race was Fletcher’s main highlight in the recent District 1-4A meet. The Senators totaled 25 points to finish ninth amongst nine competing schools. Burns crossed the tape in 40.74 seconds to just nip Flagler Palm Coast’s Slade Cavallaro (40.76).

Arts in the Park is Saturday

The 13th Annual Arts in the Park event will take place Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This one-day annual event is sponsored by the Atlantic Beach Cultural Arts & Recreation Advisory Committee.
