Sharks' lacrosse players named All-Americans

Four members of the Sharks lacrosse program were named 2016 North Florida All-Americans by US Lacrosse North Florida Chapter recently. Reid Smith and Andrew O'Dare represented the Sharks boys team on the list, while Emma Dotsikas and Ellie Lecker were listed on the girls side.

Plenty of black drum spotted in Guana Lake

Anglers are having fun following a huge school of black drum in the Guana Lake. The school is estimated to be 100 or more fish in the 20-pound range and has been spotted throughout the lake in a feeding frenzy.     The water in the lake has been drawn down.

Riding the waves and defying the odds

On June 11, nearly 60 disabled participants got the opportunity to hit the surf, thanks to a partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation’s Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program and the Life Rolls On Foundation.

Beaches' Miller takes first in weapons contest

Beach resident Jessie Miller won the 2016 Southeast District in weapons. The bo staff is Miller's weapon of choice, and it proved to be the best of the seven-state district ATA championship held in Georgia, where the top 10 students of each state are invited to compete for the top honor.

Beaches Soccer League registration under way

Beaches Soccer League will conduct registration through June 30 for its fall season at Soccer Stop, 13799 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville.   BSL offers recreational soccer teams for players from Pre K (must have turned four years old by Sept. 1, 2016) through fourth grade.

Festival season begins with Salt Life Music Festival

The inaugural Salt Life Music Festival takes place Saturday, June 18, from noon to 10 p.m. at the SeaWalk Pavilion. Family-friendly entertainment will include live music, marketplace vendors, food vendors and more. A sunrise yoga session will be held before the festival at 6:15 a.m.

Super Grom Fest takes over the waves

Several young surfers hit the waves during the first of three Super Grom Festival events scheduled for this summer and presented by the Florida Surfing Association Saturday, June 4. Sunny skies and tame surf greeted the future surfers on the south side of the Jacksonville Beach Pier for the event.
