Fletcher High Dance Ensemble places second in competition

The Fletcher High School Dance Ensemble received a bid to compete in ESPN's National Dance Team Championships by placing second in the Universal Dance Association's Regional High School Dance Team Competition held in St. Augustine at the World Golf Village recently.

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation will host a guided kayak tour of the Intracoastal Waterway on Thursday, July 21, and Saturday, July 23, launching from the Palm Valley Boat Ramp located at 383 S. Roscoe Blvd.

Mangrove snapper moving into the area

Inshore mangrove snapper have started moving into the area, according to a few reports. In and around the Dames Point Bridge, the mangos are high in numbers, but mostly under 10 inches and less than a pound. If you move out to the big jetties, there are a few keepers to be found.

BFAST Triathlon takes over Ponte Vedra

June Williams teaches water safety at Beaches Aquatic Center

Before the Beaches had seemingly endless options of swimming pools, there was the Beaches Aquatic Center. Built in 1963, Atlantic Beach families pitched in $200 each for the new pool, and it was a community staple from the beginning. Bill and June Williams began running BAC in 1977.

Bowhunting class will be offered here

Florida bowhunters will have an opportunity to attend a National Bowhunter Education Foundation certified bowhunter education course in Duval County in August. The course will be conducted using the new online, distance-learning format.
