Local surfer 'hucks' and 'hacks' way toward dream

Jeff Crego has devoted pretty much all of his 37 years to surfing. From winning contests, creating his own surf brand and making surf films, Crego, from Jacksonville Beach, has dabbled in just about everything the surf industry has to offer. Running his own contest wasn’t on that list.

Jacksonville Beach's Knox wins Traveler's

Russell Knox, a Jacksonville Beach resident and Jacksonville university alumni, won his second PGA Tour event of the season at the Traveler's Championship. Knox is the fifth players this year to earn multiple wins.

Flounder and reds are plentiful in Palm Valley

Inshore, around the banks of the St. Johns River, flounder are hungry. Anglers are picking up limits with average sizes being 15-20 inches. You may land a few flat fish working structure, such as bulkhead rocks, with a Carolina rig.

Jaguars, Armada teaming up for 'Football Night in Jacksonville' on Aug. 20

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Jacksonville Armada FC announced Aug. 5 they are teaming up for a celebration of both the American and global versions of football on Saturday, Aug. 20. Dubbed “Football Night In Jacksonville,” the Armada starts the extravaganza with a 2:30 p.m. (rescheduled from 7 p.m.

Web.com Tour Championship coming to Atlantic Beach

The Web.com Tour Championship will be held at Atlantic Beach Country Club Oct. 6 through 9. Several players will attempt to earn their PGA Tour card at the season-ending event, as well as taking home a share of the $1 million purse. More information can be found at webtourchampionship.com.

Tour de Pain runs smoothly despite stormy weather

The Tour de Pain got off to a stormy start in Jacksonville Beach Aug. 5 before the several hundred runners packing the starting line near the Seawalk Pavilion got the command to start the grueling three-race event.
