Ponte Vedra takes first volleyball match of the season

Ponte Vedra defeated Fletcher on the volleyball court Aug. 25 at Fletcher in four games. The Sharks (1-0) handed the Senators (1-1) their first loss of the season, winning the match 25-19, 25-7, 25-27, 25-16 in front of a packed and loud crowd at Fletcher. Devyn D’Errico led the Sharks with 23 digs.

Senators open golf season with a win

Fletcher High boys golf (152) opened the season recently with a win over Mandarin (188) and Stanton (156) at Brentwood/First Tee Golf Course. The Senators followed the win with a loss to Creekside 164-188 at Oakbridge the next day.

Book Talk Café presented this month

The Book Talk Café will be presented by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library Monday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. Award-winning author Susan Carol McCarthy will talk about her latest novel, “A Place We Knew Well.” The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Senators open season with win at Fort White

After leading at halftime, a season-opener upset over 7A giant Fletcher seemed on the horizon for Fort White.  But the Senators bounced back – notching 187 of their 229 rushing yards in the second half – wearing down Fort White’s once energetic defense.

Sharks open season with win over Nease 

The Ponte Vedra High football team opened the 2016 season with a win over rival Nease. The Sharks’ 27-13 win in the Battle of the Bridge was the seventh consecutive victory over the Panthers. Sharks quarterback Nick Tronti completed 12 of 21 passes for 156 yards in the game.

Great Ponte Vedra Paddle benefits HEAL

The Fifth Annual Great Ponte Vedra Paddle will take place on Labor Day, Sept. 5. The event was founded in 2012 by Dana Current, who sits on the Board of Directors of The HEAL (Healing Every Autistic Life) Foundation.

FWC to meet in St. Augustine

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will meet Sept. 8 and 9 at the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort, 500 S. Legacy Trail, St. Augustine. The meeting both days starts at 8:30 a.m. Both sessions are open to the public and the public will be provided opportunities to speak.

Reds still biting well in Palm Valley area

September brings several exciting events for First Coast anglers such as cooler weather, flood tides and the mullet run.  Recenlty, many anglers took advantage of the fantastic flood tide fishing. Despite windy conditions, fishermen were landing beautiful reds out of the grass.
