Sharks fall in Orlando volleyball tournament

The Sharks started the week off right, handing visiting Menendez a loss, improving to 4-0 on the season, 2-0 in district play. Ponte Vedra won the hard-fought match in three games, sending the Pirates packing with a  Mackenzie Morris led the Sharks with 9 kills.

Sharks win in home opener over Oakleaf

Ponte Vedra started strong against visiting Oakleaf Sept. 9 at The Shark Tank, jumping out to a 17-0 lead early and never slowing down. The end result was a 42-24 win. The Sharks (2-0) were well-rested after an unscheduled off week following a canceled game against Palatka due to Hurricane Hermine.

Flounder plentiful along north side of river

Inshore, the flounder are hungry and plentiful. Anglers are catching their limit of flatties using live finger mullet or a white Gulp mantis shrimp on a jig head. The reports I received are mostly from the north side of the St. Johns River. Simpsons and Myrtle Creeks seem to be hot spots.

Fletcher dominates Providence at home

Fletcher had little trouble with Providence last Friday night at Jack Taylor Stadium, handing the Stallions a 35-10 loss. The Senators (3-0) win comes on a short week, having played that Monday following a rescheduled game from Hurricane Hermine.

'Salty Dog' photo series celebrates wave runners, surf culture

A new photo exhibit captures the heart, culture and spirit of the surfing community. The Salty Dog Portrait Series was created by Atlantic Beach photographer Chad Dennis to document the history and share the stoke of local wave riders.

NW Florida red drum bag limit to remain at one fish

The recreational red drum daily bag limit in the Northwest Red Drum Management Zone (Escambia County through Fred Howard Park near Pasco County) will remain one fish per person. The bag limit was changed from two fish to one in May via a temporary order.

Sharks' girls volleyball win in Matanzas

The Ponte Vedra (3-0) volleyball team traveled to Matanzas High  Aug. 30, leaving the Pirates court with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-12 3-0 win. Aya Kusumoto led the Sharks with nine kills. Lilliana Kinder and Sydney Parker each added six kills in the win.

Colorful art brings new life to old surfboards

The surfboard is one of the most iconic images associated with the salt lifestyle. When Ponte Vedra artist Wylie Rasmussen moved from a quaint English cottage to a California beach house, she wanted her new home to reflect her new surroundings.
