Fletcher hangs on to win district opener 14-7 over Atlantic Coast

Fletcher opened up its 2016 district play with a win over Atlantic Coast in a nail-biter that came down to the closing minutes.

Senators pick up two more volleyball wins

The Senators traveled to Sandalwood Sept. 14, leaving the Saints court with a 25-15, 25-12, 25-4 win.  Fletcher (8-1) got 14 kills from Brooke Ruud in the win. Mia McKay led the Senators with 25 assists and Anna Gartner recorded 14 digs. Kat Felice served up four aces in the 3-0 win over the Saints.

Recreational bay scallop season closes Sept. 25

The 2016 recreational season for bay scallops, from the western end of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County through the Pasco-Hernando county line, will close Sunday, Sept. 25. The final day of harvesting is Saturday, Sept. 24, bringing an end to the season statewide. The area west of St.

One week left to qualify for the Lionfish Challenge

The Lionfish Challenge will come to a close Sept. 30, but that is still plenty of time to take and turn in the 50 lionfish it takes to qualify in the program. Every lionfish tail submitted helps control the invasive population.

This Sunday is Acoustic Night in Atlantic Beach

This coming Sunday, Sept. 25, is the next Atlantic Beach Acoustic Night. The concert will be held on the lawn of Bull Park at The Adele Grage Cultural Center, 716 Ocean Blvd. Music begins at 6 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m., rain or shine. Email mike@mikeshackelford.com for information.

Parade starts Fletcher's homecoming activities

Fletcher High School's homecoming parade was held Sept. 19. Fletcher High celebrated homecoming with a variety of activities, culminating in Sept. 23’s football game.

Jarosz and Millsap co-headlining show at PV Concert Hall

Two young Americana singer-songwriters – Sarah Jarosz and Parker Millsap – will co-headline a performance at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday, Sept. 30.  Jarosz is a 25-year-old Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.

Senators volleyball keeping busy with four wins

Fletcher volleyball has been busy on the court, going through four matches in just over a week.  The Senators (6-1) traveled to Atlantic Coast High Sept. 6, handing the Stingrays a 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 loss. Brooke Ruud led Fletcher with 17 kills. Amanda Beane added 10 in the win.

Bringing fish back from the Bahamas becomes easier Sept. 13

Bringing fish caught recreationally in the Bahamas back to Florida by water has become a little easier. A new exception went into place Sept. 13 in state waters, allowing anglers to possess and land filleted dolphin, wahoo and reef fish that were caught in Bahamian waters.

Sharks dominate girls golf tri-match

The Sharks hosted a tri-match at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club Ocean Course Sept. 12, easily defeating Buchholz and Columbia with a round of 166.  Sara McKevitt and Sophie Membrino each carded a 40 as the 6-2 Sharks pulled away to a 10-shot win over second place Buchholz.
