Furyk cards first-ever 58

Jim Furyk recently carded the first round of 58 ever scored on the PGA Tour at the Traveler's Championship in Connecticut. Furyk, a Ponte Vedra Beach resident, bested his previous record of 59, which he shot at the 2013 BMW Championship.

Ponte Vedra Beach's Murphy wins Olympic gold

Ryan Murphy of Ponte Vedra Beach won the gold medal in Rio Aug. 8 in the 100-meter backstroke.  Murphy attended The Bolles School, but predicted his Olympic future as an 8-year-old at Ponte Vedra's Palmer Catholic Academy in a project he did for his class.

Jacksonville Beach looks to make municipal golf course pay for itself

The Jacksonville Beach municipal golf course is not paying its own way and the city is looking at redeveloping the greens and revising course fees. During a budget workshop Tuesday to discuss the Parks and Recreation Department, plans to improve the golf course were detailed.

Area golfers find success at Jacksonville Amateur Golf Championship

Ponte Vedra Beach resident and rising Elon College sophomore Phillip Loeb birdied three of the last four holes at the Jacksonville Amateur Championship at Queen’s Harbor Yacht & Country Club to put himself in contention to take Jacksonville’s most prestigious amateur golf title.

Jax Beach Art Walk celebrates anniversary

The Jax Beach Art Walk will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Downtown Jacksonville Beach. The Jax Beach Art Walk is a free, family-friendly event that repeats every month on the second Tuesday.

Sharks football hits the practice field

Ponte Vedra High School’s 2016 football season is more about what happens next, not what happened last. “What’s next?” is the theme for the Sharks as the 2016 season approaches and practice is officially underway. The Sharks took the field Aug. 1 at 7:30 a.m. to get the new season rolling.

Senators football hits the practice field

Fletcher High School’s 2016 football season started like it has for the past several season — the very first minute possible.   The Senators, under first-year head coach Kevin Brown, took the practice field at 12:01 a.m. Monday to get the 2016 campaign under way.

Beaches Museum hosting Mayport exhibit

Presented by The Beaches Museum & History Park and opening on Aug. 11, “Mayport Village: On the River of Change” is part of a series of events that will continue through October, and include items of interest to railroad enthusiasts, film buffs and students of archeology.
