Bay scallop conservation measures approved for St. Joe Bay

At the June 23 meeting near Apalachicola, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved measures to conserve bay scallops in the St. Joseph Bay area. The measures include delaying and shortening the recreational bay scallop season so it will open Aug. 22, run through Sept.

Wave of Autism Surf Camp rescheduled for July

The HEAL Foundation's Riding The Wave of Autism Surf Camp in Jacksonville Beach, originally scheduled for June 20 and 21, has been rescheduled. The event will now take place July 18 and 19, 9 a.m. to noon. The change was a result of a strong northeaster forecast for the original date.

Rough seas and high temperatures limit anglers

Last weekend’s rough seas kept most anglers deep in the creeks or off the water completely. The week prior, the heat advisories were pushing both sportsman and fish alike into the comforts of a shady, cool place to hide from the heat.

Kona anniversary, fund raiser set

Kona Skatepark will hold its anniversary party with a fund raiser Saturday. Help Kona Skatepark raise money to restore the vintage concrete in the Freestyle, Pro Bowl and Snake Run. Three stages throughout the skatepark will host 12 bands, and skate events will take place all day.

 Super Groms set to invade the waves

On Saturday, several young surfers will hit the waves during the second of three Super Grom Festival events scheduled for this summer.  The popular event geared toward future surfers will be held on the south side of the Jacksonville Beach Pier.

Kayak tour scheduled at Guana

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation is hosting a two- to three-hour guided kayak tour of Guana Tolomato Matanzas Waterway Thursday, June 23, at 10 a.m. The trip will launch from Six Mile Boat Ramp, which is located six miles north of the Guana Dam off A1A.

Freedom Festival returns to Orange Park

Country music star Aaron Tippin will headline the sixth annual Freedom Festival at Orange Park Mall, 1910 Wells Road, Saturday, June 25, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. There will also be a KidX Club patriotic parade at 6 p.m., a patriotic fly-over and fireworks at 9 p.m.

NFL Alumni hosting cheer and football clinic

The NFL Alumni is hosting a cheerleading and football clinic in Nocatee Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic will be held at the Nocatee Summer Camp Field at 245 Nocatee Center Way.
