Second phase of Atlantic Beach visioning plan starts

Atlantic Beach is moving into the second phase of its 20-year visioning plan. City staff recently distributed a visioning questionnaire to solicit feedback from residents and businesses in Atlantic Beach. A total of 785 responses were received by the Oct. 20 deadline.

BEAM aims to collect 800 Thanksgiving meal kits

Volunteers with the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM) in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul in Jacksonville Beach are gearing up to distribute Thanksgiving meal kits to low-income families in need of extra support this holiday season.

Atlantic Beach wins Business Yard of the Month award

The city of Atlantic Beach received the Ribault Garden Club’s Outstanding Business Yard of the Month award for October. The city’s landscaping at the five-way intersection at Plaza, Sherry Drive and Seminole Road earned the city the garden club’s honor.

Kurtis Loftus reaches surfing goal of more than 600 consecutive waves

Under clear blue skies, Kurtis Loftus reclaimed the world record Oct. 26, catching more than 600 consecutive waves to raise money for Deck the Chairs in Jacksonville Beach. Loftus, 60, embarked on his quest at 7 a.m. Oct. 25, officially breaking the world record at 3 a.m.

Nominations sought for Beaches Watch 'Give Back' donation

The Beaches Watch Board of Directors is requesting nominations for the 12th Annual Beaches Watch "Give Back" donation. This $500 donation recognizes a nonprofit organization that enriches the lives of Beaches residents.

Thanksgiving tradition returning to Neptune Beach

An iconic Thanksgiving tradition will return this year to Neptune Beach. On Oct. 18, the Neptune Beach City Council voted unanimously to allow Pete’s Bar to hold its annual Thanksgiving event which draws thousands to Beaches Town Center. The 2021 celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

New development coming to site of former Dolphin Depot

A mixed-use development is coming to the former Dolphin Depot site in Jacksonville Beach. Recently, Trevato Development Group announced its plans to develop the project with 180 parking spaces at 704 1st St. N. across from the Margaritaville Beach Hotel. Trevato purchased the 1.

CRA to discuss funds for SeaWalk Pavilion

The Community Redevelopment Agency will consider a resolution at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 to appropriate $186,000 in Downtown Tax Increment Funds to address repairs to the SeaWalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach.
