Fletcher wins wrestling championship

The Gateway wrestling championship was held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Fletcher High School. Fletcher High School won the championship with a final score of 177. This is the third time the team has won in four years. The team had a nine place finishers, with four champions.

Record fair coming to St. Augustine

The Spring 2020 St. Augustine Record Fair, presented by local record store ToneVendor, returns to The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Sunday, March 22. The biannual St. Augustine Record Fair is a free, family-friendly event that is open to the public. It will be held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Jacksonville Beach native wins World Longboard Championship

When the World Surf League’s Open World Longboard Championship was held in December at Jinzun Harbor, Taiwan, the Beaches got represented in a big way. Jacksonville Beach native and Fletcher graduate Justin Quintal claimed the World Title and the first prize of $10,000.  “It’s been a busy year.

FWC offering funding for lionfish exhibits

Public facilities that want to create exhibits about invasive lionfish are in luck. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has a Lionfish Educational Exhibit Program that provides one-time financial assistance to help build or update a high-quality lionfish exhibit.

St. Johns County closes fishing pier

The St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier is closed through May for repairs and rehabilitation. The north beach access point adjacent to the pier will also be closed for the duration of the project, and access to the beach near the pier will also be intermittently restricted during this time.

How saltwater fishing management boundaries came to be

When you are on a boat, it’s hard to imagine boundaries. The sea is the sea. Wave after wave, it all looks the same. Above-water landmarks are few and far between. There are no signs that say, “now entering federal waters.” Regulatory boundaries are sometimes hard to fathom.
