Beaches Go Green works to reduce single-use plastic

Beaches Go Green (BGG) continues the Reusable Bottles for Sports program. BGG connects a local sponsor with a school or community sports team to provide team branded reusable bottles to young athletes.

Oceanside Rotary's cornhole tournament to benefit BEAM

The Oceanside Rotary Club will hold a cornhole tournament to raise money for Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM). The event will be held Saturday, May 1, at the Jacksonville Beaches Municipal Golf Course Driving Range from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

First Jacksonville Spring Boat Show coming to Metropolitan Park

The first Jacksonville Spring Boat Show will be held April 16 through April 18 at Metropolitan Park and Marina, 1410 Gator Bowl Blvd. The show will feature water-related fun, family-friendly activities and educational seminars.

New species added to FWC Catch a Florida Memory program

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and its saltwater angler recognition program, Catch a Florida Memory, has seen the addition of two new qualifying Reel Big Fish. Anglers are now able to earn Reel Big Fish recognition for vermilion snapper and saltwater catfish.

Fletcher softball plays Bolles and Sandalwood

The Fletcher High School girls softball team had a great week last week. On March 1, they visited Bolles and walked away with a win of 10-5. Emily Perry #11, drove in five runs on two hits, including a home run.

Ponte Vedra lacrosse wins

The Ponte Vedra Lady Sharks lacrosse team (4-1) welcomed IMG Academy High School (2-2) to the Shark Tank for a Friday night showdown of the state’s top girls lacrosse programs. The speed and skill of both teams were on display all night. The battle started early as IMG jumped out to a quick lead.

Another El Cheapo Sheepshead Tournament is in the books

Congratulations to Sehaid Dedic for narrowly edging out local star Jeff Lagamen in the El Cheapo Sheepshead Tournament last weekend. Sehaid caught the winner weighing in at 11.76 pounds and Jeff’s runner up went 11.75. With the top 10 fish all over 8.5 pounds, it was a competitive finish this year.

New guidelines for COVID safety at The Players

The greens may look the same but there are a number of changes in play during Players Championship week. Practice rounds were held Tuesday and Wednesday, with tournament play underway at 6:40 a.m. today and tomorrow, and 7:50 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
