This weekend looks better for fishing

After what feels like a month of steady wind this coming weekend is finally looking like a better window for fishing instead of sailing.

Shark interactions while fishing the focus of FWC discussion

At its May meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) hosted a roundtable discussion focused on the issue of shark interactions when fishing, such as sharks taking anglers’ catch before getting it to the boat.

Inshore fishing is the safe best this weekend

I hope everyone got the chance to sneak out and fish over the last week. Tuesday was one of the nicest days offshore since December. Unfortunately the forecast is calling another windy weekend for the First Coast this week.

Fletcher Middle School wins Eastern Division swimming titles

Fletcher Middle School boys’ and girls’ swim teams won the Eastern Division titles May 6 at Sandalwood High School's pool. Teams faced competition from five Duval County Public School middle schools.

St. Johns Golf Club hosting patriots fund-raiser

The St. Johns Golf Club is hosting Patriots Golf Day fund-raiser lessons Friday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4900 Cypress Links Blvd. Patrons who make a minimum donation of $20 will receive a 10-minute lesson with a PGA professional.

Fishing heating up alongside temperatures

The start of May has been a scorcher, after a mild spring it’s quickly feeling like summer on the First Coast, especially on the water this week. May 1 is always an exciting day for Florida anglers with Grouper reopening in our waters.

Summer Camps

• Registration is open for students 7 to 14 for Theatre Jacksonville’s Make Believe summer theater arts camp. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Session A runs June 7 through 25, and Session B will run July 12 through 30.

US Lacrosses announces awards to Ponte Vedra players

As the 2021 Ponte Vedra Girls Lacrosse team enters the State Regional Finals, US Lacrosse announced their High School All American girls lacrosse players. Ponte Vedra was honored with four award winners.

FHS softball finishes regular season with two wins against Mandarin

The Fletcher High School Lady Senators softball team had two wins against the Mandarin team. They ended their regular season 13-8, with a team batting average of .346. Presley Harrell took all 13 wins as junior pitcher. They start district playoffs as the second seed with a bye.
