Embrace 'cooler' temperatures, hit the trails

As the summer’s stifling heat gives way to the cooler temperatures of a Florida fall, the St. Johns River Water Management District encourages the community to enjoy the weather by exploring its extensive network of properties.

Flounder recreational harvest season closes Oct. 15

The recreational harvest of flounder in all Florida state and federal waters will close Oct. 15 and remain closed through Nov. 30, reopening Dec. 1. This closed season provides protection to flounder during pre-spawning aggregations, which ensures more fish can reproduce each year.

Kate Kombo Golf and Pickleball Tournament set for Oct. 20

Registration is underway for the inaugural Kate Kombo Golf and Pickleball Tournament to be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at The Yards in Sawgrass. All net proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit The Kate Amato Foundation to help fund innovative, nontoxic treatments for childhood cancer.

Duval Tides recruiting rugby players

Duval Tides Girls High School Rugby recently announced the launch of the 2023 fall season and is actively recruiting new players across Northeast Florida. Now in its second season, the pioneering girls’ high school rugby team practices start Nov. 7; no experience is necessary.

FWC approves stone crab regulation changes

At its October meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved changes to recreational and commercial stone crab regulations for escape ring requirements.

Fletcher shuts out Terry Parker, prepares for Ed White

The Fletcher High School football team defeated Terry Parker Sept. 29, 41-0, in an away district game. The team will take on Ed White at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at home in a non-district game.

Davidson Realty hosting Clay Day fundraiser

Davidson Cares is hosting its eighth annual clay day fundraiser, which has been renamed this year from "Davidson Cares Clay Day" to "Jim Davidson’s Annual Clay Day," after the recent passing of the patriarch of the Davidson family, Jim Davidson.

PLAYERS seeks auditions for next year's National Anthem
