Jax Beach City Council will have earlier meeting times

The Jacksonville Beach City Council approved a motion at April 6's meeting allowing for earlier start times of council meetings as needed during the COVID-19 State of Emergency. The change will allow for the city manager to schedule city council meetings to begin with a start time other than 7 p.m.

Beaches support group works to empower women during hard times

When Belinda Brownlee lost her daughter to an act of violence, she found strength in the women who lifted her during the dark days that followed. The experience inspired the Jacksonville Beach woman to establish a nonprofit group as a source of motivation and support for women in need.

St. Johns County issues garbage pickup and landfill guidelines

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, St. Johns County Solid Waste has established the following guidelines regarding garbage pickup and landfill drop-off: • Place any items that can be picked up curbside instead of bringing it into the landfill.

Senior citizens stay connected during state of emergency

Found art takes on new meaning at Fleet Landing. It is also keeping seniors connected. To help combat the isolation of the COVID-19 emergency, Fleet Landing is hosting a series of art challenges, scavenger hunts, history lessons and daily trivia to keep its residents engaged.

Spring cleaning may alter bulk pick-up for Jacksonville Beach

The Public Works Department of the city of Jacksonville Beach issued a public service announcement April 7 stating that many residents are spending their time working in the yard and doing spring cleaning in their homes and garages while staying in under the Safer at Home order.

Jacksonville Beach suspends nonessential construction

City officials are putting a temporary halt to all nonessential construction in Jacksonville Beach. A notice was issued April 2 by Building Official George Knight and Fire Marshal Steve Sciotto notifying all contractors and private property owners of the new construction-related measures.
