Gonzales Park renovations scheduled to start Monday

Renovations at Gonzales Park are slated to get underway Monday in Jacksonville Beach. The final master plan includes a new shaded playground, renovated rest room facilities, four pickleball courts, a basketball court, a fitness circuit, a multi-purpose field and a clay baseball diamond.

Cooling station set up at Salvation Army Area Command

In response to record-breaking temperatures this past week, and an excessive heat warning in effect, the Salvation Army of Northeast Florida Area Command will open its doors as a cooling station, Sunday, Aug. 13, from noon to 6 p.m. at 328 N. Ocean St., Jacksonville, 32202.

Neptune Beach appoints new police chief

City officials in Neptune Beach have appointed a new chief of police. Following the resignation of former Chief Richard Pike, who now serves as the city manager, former Cmdr. Michael Key was selected Aug. 1 to serve as the chief of police for the Neptune Beach Police Department.

Mega Millions winning ticket sold at Neptune Beach Publix

The winning ticket in Tuesday’s $1.58 billion Mega Millions drawing was sold at a Publix in Neptune Beach. Winnings must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing, and because the prize exceeds $1 million, it must be claimed in person at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.
