Burger and Fry looking for 'furever' homes

Burger and Fry, two 2-month-old tuxedo brothers, were rescued from a high-kill shelter and fostered by Mayport Cats in a home with other cats. They are as playful as they come. If you are looking for entertainment and excitement, Burger and Fry are your boys.

First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach reaching 100th anniversary

One of the Beaches' oldest churches is getting ready to celebrate its 100th anniversary and make some significant changes. It was June 20, 1921, when a group of 25 people met with the intention of starting a Baptist church to serve what was then Pablo Beach.

MOSH offering free admission to military

The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) will host a military appreciation day on Monday, Memorial day. All veterans, active duty service members and their families will receive free admission to MOSH from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MOSH is located at 1025 Museum Cir., Jacksonville.

Clay Humane offers suggestions to prepare animals for hurricane season

Clay Humane, a nonprofit animal clinic located in Orange Park, is urging pet owners to plan for hurricane season on the First Coast. According to the National Hurricane Center at the National Weather Service, the Atlantic Hurricane season starts June 1 and runs through Nov. 30 (www.nhc.noaa.gov/).

Local lifeguards are urging beach-goers to use caution and common sense during the busy holiday weekend. With favorable weather conditions expected for Memorial Day, Capt. Rob Emahiser of the Jacksonville Beach Lifesaving Corps said the oceanfront can turn deadly without the proper precautions.
