DONNA Marathon is Sunday

The 15th annual DONNA Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer will be held Sunday in Jacksonville Beach. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. in Latham Plaza; runners will head north into Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach, eventually coming back into Jacksonville Beach.

Atlantic Beach selects interim recreation director

Atlantic Beach has named a new interim director of recreation and special events. Latrenia Thomas, who has operated the city’s Gail Baker Community Center for the last seven years, will step into the role vacated by the termination of Timmy Johnson.

Founder of Terry's Country Store dies

A Beaches fixture known as a family man who cared deeply for his community has died. Richard “Terry” Smith, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 20, at his Jacksonville Beach home. Smith owned and operated Terry’s Country Store for 47 years. “It’s business as usual right now. There’s a lot to sort out.

St. Augustine Boulevard/Cypress Road to close

St. Augustine Boulevard and Cypress Road will close to through traffic from Feb. 7 to Feb. 21 for a St. Johns County drainage improvement project, which includes replacing a water main and storm drain enhancement. Residents in this area will have access to and from their homes during this time.

Artist finding new ways to keep community engaged

What started as a local trend has captured the attention of a group of would-be art enthusiasts in South Florida. Guerilla artist Scotie Cousin first generated a buzz by planting whimsical creatures throughout the Beaches.
