Patience is key to fishing for sheepshead

It’s been a beautiful start to the week so far, warm fall days and hungry fish. The coming weekend, watch for a significant drop in night temperatures down into the 50s for parts of the First Coast.

Hogfish recreational season closes Nov. 1

Hogfish recreational harvest will close in state and federal waters off the East Coast of Florida and Florida Keys Nov. 1. This closure includes all state waters south of Cape Sable, which is on the Gulf side of Florida, and up the Atlantic Coast.

St. Johns Golf Club reinstates cart fee

The state of Florida recently entered phase III of the reopening process, allowing multiple golfers to ride in the same cart again. On Oct. 19, the St. Johns Golf Club reinstated the $10 single rider cart.

Atlantic bluefish regulation change effective Oct. 26

Starting Oct. 26, the following change will be in effect for bluefish: • The recreational daily bag limit will be three fish per person along the Atlantic Coast from Nassau through Miami-Dade counties.

Fall fishing transition continues

It’s been a breezy week so far on the water. A mixed up ocean has once again shut down the offshore fishery, inshore the fall fishing transition continues despite some warmer days and a little warmer water this week.

Friday night lights shine on Fletcher

On Oct. 9, the Fletcher High School Senators football team returned home to Jack Taylor Stadium and defeated the Ribault Trojans 28-12 in a Gateway Conference game.

It’s been a gorgeous start to the week for anyone on the First Coast, and local offshore anglers have been making the most of the weather windows. Inshore, the flounder bite is still the name of the game and the bull reds are chewing in the St. Johns.

Lady Senators Gateway champs again

The Fletcher High School Lady Senators won their sixth consecutive Gateway Conference crown under head coach Mark McGiveron. Fletcher defeated Mandarin 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) in the Championship match. Fletcher stands at 16-2 overall, as they head into the Class 6A-4 District playoffs.
