A surfer takes advantage of waves created by recent storms in the Atlantic Ocean this past weekend.

Reusable water bottles given by Beaches Go Green

Through a partnership with Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS), Beaches Go Green (BGG) and the PVHS BGG student club sponsored more than 600 SIC stainless steel water bottles for athletes to use instead of single-use cups and plastic bottles.

Palm Valley Bobcats score 50 points

On Sept. 3, the Palm Valley Academy Bobcats and Mill Creek Academy Mustangs met at Pacetti Middle School to kick off the inaugural football seasons for both teams. PVA's high-powered offense scored quickly and never took its foot off the gas.

Prime time for offshore fishing coming as temperatures drop

What a week it’s been. Labor Day brought us a perfect end to the summer, with northeast winds, cooler (slightly) rainy days and hungry fish! Every fall, the first nor’easter is the kick off to the best few weeks of the year for fishing inshore.

Football, other high school athletics opening with limited fan capacity

Friday night lights will burn just as bright, but crowd sizes will be controlled when high school football and other athletic contests in Duval County begin in September. The district will limit attendance to 30 percent of a venue’s capacity for spectators of athletic contests.

Vilano Beach driving access closing Sept. 8

Due to a beach renourishment project that will restore critically-eroded shoreline and dunes, vehicular access to Vilano Beach will be restricted beginning Sept. 8.

Freedom Boat Club has new manager for St. Augustine location

Freedom Boat Club has added a new club manager to its team. Cody Culpepper has been named the dock manager for the boat club’s location at Camachee Cove Marina in St. Augustine. Culpepper is responsible for managing the dock team, helping the staff with reservations and managing the waiting list.

Fishing forecast looks good through Saturday

While the heat and humidity haven’t seemed to notice, the first week of September heralds fall on the First Coast. The mullet run is on, the inshore fishing is improving and hunting season is rapidly approaching. It’s a great time to enjoy the outdoors on the First Coast.
