by CHRIS SHULTZ FISHING COLUMNIST Take time to get the right bait With schools starting to open and the weather less than cooperative, it’s been a little slower at the boat ramp this week. The fish are still in full summer pattern, bait is still the biggest issue.

Weather causing mullet to be on the move

The mullet are moving. While a little early we’ve seen schools of mullet along the jetty and beach over the last couple weeks. Tarpon, Sharks, Redfish, every predator in the area will key in on mullet as they migrate this time of year.

Jax Beach Freedom Boat Club gets Best of Jax award

Freedom Boat Club in Jacksonville Beach has been named the best boat club of 2020 in the Best of Jacksonville Awards presented by the Jacksonville Awards Program. The Jacksonville Beach location was chosen for the award due to the club’s commitment to its members and the community.

New bowling alley planned for Jax Beach

A bowling alley is coming to the former location of Beach Bowl following a series of upgrades. Preliminary engineering plans were submitted in May for a 70-by-125-foot building addition on the west side of the existing building at 818 Beach Blvd.

LiquiMoly ProWatercross National Championship kicks off Saturday

The LiquiMoly ProWatercross National Tour event at Vilano Beach this weekend will now crown the national championships as the tour season will end this weekend. The season ending event in Palm Beach, originally scheduled for next weekend, has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Swimming restricted at Vilano Beach due to Pro Watercross event

A portion of Vilano Beach will be closed to swimmers Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, for the Pro Watercross National Tour Stop event. On-beach driving will remain available until capacity is reached.

Forecast for the next few days looks great for fishing

After last weekend's focus on the tropics, the forecast is looking great for fishing the next few days. While Isaias only skirted the First Coast, the storm did churn up a good amount of swell for local surfers and kept the offshore anglers at the dock.

August blue crab trap closures for east coast of Florida canceled

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has canceled the blue crab trap closures previously scheduled for Aug. 10 through 19 and 20 through 29, for all waters from Nassau through Palm Beach counties.
