Fletcher girls lacrosse wins district title

The Fletcher High School girls lacrosse team played April 13 at Fletcher’s home field, Jack Taylor Stadium, as the number one seed for the district championship game. After a rainy start and brief rain delay, the Lady Senators beat the Nease Panthers 16-5, clenching the district title.

Lee Smith named executive director of THE PLAYERS Championship

The PGA TOUR announced April 18 that Lee Smith has been named executive director of THE PLAYERS Championship and replaces Jared Rice, who has taken a new role leading business development for the TOUR’s Championship Management portfolio of events.

Sunshine Showdown baseball game set for May 2

Gator Bowl Sports, along with the University of Florida, Florida State University and ASM Global, recently announced the time for the rescheduled Sunshine Showdown baseball game at 121 Financial Ballpark. The game will now be played on Tuesday, May 2, at 6 p.m. The game will not be televised.

FWS revises proposed critical habitat for shorebird

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced April 12 it has revised the proposed critical habitat rule for the rufa red knot, a robin-sized shorebird currently listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act, and is reopening the public comment period.

Challenge 22 walk held

The Challenge 22 Walk was held March 25 at Jacksonville Beach. The fundraiser, sponsored by Here Tomorrow and VyStar Credit Union, was hosted by American Legion Post 129 to raise funds for veteran suicide prevention.
