St. Johns County hosting 20th Annual Turtletown USA Beach Cleanup

St. Johns County will host the 20th Annual Turtletown USA Beach Cleanup Saturday, May 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. The long-running community cleanup helps remove litter and debris in preparation for sea turtle nesting season, which begins in May.

Fletcher recognizes senior softball players

On April 26, four senior girls on the Fletcher High School varsity softball team were celebrated by teammates, fans, coaches and families. Addison Abrams, Makayla Martin, Jadyn Rogers and Dacie Watterson, teammates for the last four years, will attend different colleges in the fall.

Beaches open with parade

The city of Jacksonville Beach hosted the 75th Annual Opening of the Beaches Parade April 30. Participants included Fletcher High School, American Legion Post 129 and the Jacksonville Jaguars ROAR cheerleaders.

Planners have been busy preparing for Vacation Bible Schools

Out of the list of choices parents make for their children’s summer activities, Vacation Bible School (VBS) is an option local churches prioritize. This mission does not come easy. It takes planning, volunteers, physical space and the support of a congregation.

Stone crab season closes May 2

Florida’s recreational and commercial stone crab seasons in state and federal waters will close May 2, with the last day of harvest being May 1. This annual season closure is intended to increase the stone crab population and build resiliency in the fishery.

It's an excellent time of year to fish

The fishing is hot and the weather has been pleasantly mild as we get into the swing of spring fishing here on the First Coast. Our migratory pelagic species are showing up and the coastal predators are rolling in following the bait schools.

Tony Street, 48, from Canton, Ohio, has been hired as the new head golf professional at Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. Street has been a head golf professional in public, private and resort industries, and has more than 17 years of experience as a PGA head professional in the golf industry.

Gator Bowl Sports elects chairman, volunteer leadership

The Gator Bowl Sports Board of Trustees elected its 2023-24 volunteer leadership, including chairman, officers and advisory board, during its March quarterly meeting. Alan Worley, president and CEO of Money Pages and 3D Digital, was elected chairman.
