Many contribute to create Beaches Habitat community

In 2005, a 90-unit apartment complex at Atlantic Boulevard and Mayport Road in Atlantic Beach was condemned, and by 2008 there was nothing but cement slabs on the property. Today, the property is named OceanGate and is home to 24 families with more units on the way.

Cocktails and Contribution to raise funds for Neptune Beach mixologist

One Ocean Resort and Spa will host a fund-raising event, Cocktails and Contribution, on Saturday, July 23, at 5 p.m. for Hugh Thompson, a Neptune Beach resident and One Ocean mixologist who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in May.

Atlantic Beach rejects buying parking space for Town Center

After deliberating June 27, the Atlantic Beach City Commission voted unanimously against purchasing a $1.2 million property at 54 East Coast Dr. to be used for parking and rather set its sights at a business overlay district to find a parking solution.

Navy Band will perform with Japanese navy band

A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training squadron composed of three ships will be part of a four-day port visit at Naval Station Mayport July 7 through 10, as part of a round-the-world deployment to 16 ports in 13 countries.

Atlantic Beach gives waiver for Beach Diner

The Atlantic Beach City Commission approved waivers this week to allow 30 parking spaces for Beach Diner as part of the Gate Petroleum project at 535 Atlantic Blvd.; however, restaurant owner Barry Adeeb is taking legal action to claim the additional spaces he believes are rightfully his.

Christ Episcopal Church Charitable Fund awards scholarships

This year, the Christ Episcopal Church Charitable Fund has awarded four-year Florida Prepaid tuition-only scholarships to four area youth from Ponte Vedra, Fletcher and Nease high schools.
