Donations sought for Back to School with BEAM

BEAM's annual community drive for clothing and school supplies will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon at Beach Church. BEAM (Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry) relies on the support of local churches and donors.

Student performance of 'CATS' presented by FSCJ Artist Series

Students of the 11th Annual High School Summer Musical Theatre Experience will perform "CATS" for six shows only starting on July 22. The Summer Musical Theatre Experience provides opportunities for students in grades seven through 12 to work hands-on with local and regional theatre professionals.

60-year anniversary celebrated

Gary and Marie (Martin) Esler of Ponte Vedra celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 12. Married in Saginaw, Mich., Gary worked as a firefighter for the city of Saginaw, retiring after 28 years. Marie worked for 25 years in the grocer business.

Ponte Vedra schools get straight 'A' grades

School grades released recently reveal the St. Johns County School District as the top performing district in the state for the eighth year in a row, with 22 A-rated schools, six B schools, four C schools and one D school.

'C' grade for Fletcher High disappoints some

Fletcher High School received a grade of C for the last school year, slipping from a B grade. The grade “disappointed” local school officials who said the grade does not reflect the school’s performance, which includes a 90-plus percent rate of graduation.

Alana L. Hall of Atlantic Beach graduated with highest honors from Piedmont College, Demorest, Ga., April 30.   Earning a bachelor of science degree in biology and minors in chemistry and business administration, Hall was the class valedictorian and awarded the H.M. Stewart Sr.

Library work to start in Ponte Vedra

Beginning July 20, the Ponte Vedra Beach Library will undergo entrance and foyer improvements, which will temporarily move the entrance to the library to the double green doors located on the southeast end of the building.
