Cops lunch with kids after donor's gift

An anonymous donor walked into Angie's Subs in Jacksonville Beach recently with a $2,000 check. The donor wanted to buy lunches for local police officers as a gesture of support for the Jacksonville Beach Police Department and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office from the beaches community.

Churches offer neighborhood cookout

The Beaches Veteran’s Memorial Park, 100 S. Main in Atlantic Beach, will be hopping Saturday with live music and a basic cookout. Two community-minded churches are joining to offer the neighborhood cookout this Saturday, July 30, for the local residents.

Ferry closed for maintenance

In order to complete vessel improvements and the remaining Ft. George slip wall repairs, the St. Johns River Ferry is temporarily closed through Sunday, July 31. The improvements are part of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority's (JTA) investment in the ferry.

For Beaches shoppers in search of seasonal and regionally-sourced produce, local farmer’s markets offer a spread of fruits, vegetables, and handmade goods. Atlantic Beach holds a weekly Mid-week Market in Bull Park every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Greater Beaches Post 3270 Veterans of Foreign Wars has been named an All-American Post for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, an award based on hours of community service, service to veterans and membership. Post 3270 is one of 22 posts in the state of Florida to receive this honor.
