Palm Valley Academy students participate in a fun run as a fund raiser for the school.

Palm Valley Academy students run to raise funds

Palm Valley Academy (PVA) students ran a combined 8,844 laps in the school’s second annual Bobcat Bolt and first Color Run. The Bobcat Bolt is a donation-based fun run event that raised funds for PVA while encouraging school spirit and promoting healthy physical activity.

Jacksonville Beach Fire Department is gone

The city of Jacksonville took over fire protection duties for the city of Jacksonville Beach Nov. 23 and there have been a few changes. The front door of the station, normally unlocked during the day, is now locked as there is no receptionist up front any longer, according to staff.

Finegan kids make holiday placemats

Finegan K-Kids recently made more than 100 Thanksgiving-themed placemats as a community service for the annual Beaches Kiwanis-sponsored Thanksgiving dinner at the Beaches Senior Center on Nov. 22.

Atlantic Beach wants info on proposed JEA sale

The proposed sale of JEA has Atlantic Beach city officials wondering what the change could mean for the Beach city. Atlantic Beach is the only Beach city that gets power from JEA, as other areas of the Beaches are served by Beaches Energy, which is owned by Jacksonville Beach.

Pier repairs to start

The Jacksonville Fishing Pier on the oceanfront at 5th Avenue North in Jacksonville Beach is now closed to the public for two years as repairs are made. The easternmost 300 feet of the pier was destroyed in 2016 by Hurricane Matthew. Repairs are being made now by a contractor paid by the county.

Former Beaches Habitat for Humanity CEO remembered

Guy Cuddihee, former CEO of Beaches Habitat for Humanity who helped raise millions for local charities, lost his battle with brain cancer Nov. 14. He retired in June following his diagnosis with glioblastoma in March.
