Hometown honors hero

Retired Navy Capt. Richard A. Stratton was honored in his hometown of Quincy, Mass., recently. Stratton and his wife, Alice, who have lived in Atlantic Beach since 1993, were joined for the Oct.

Neptune Beach mayor, councilor questions funds

A plan to spend nearly $500,000 on professional services for comprehensive plan and land development code revisions over the next two years was approved by a 3-2 vote of the Neptune Beach City Council Nov. 4. The dissenters questioned the cost and how the city plans to pay for the work.

Boys Scouts recognized

Members of Beaches Boy Scout Troops 15, 37 and 40 were recognized with a mayoral proclamation Oct. 28 for their efforts in the Three Beaches, One Community relief drive for residents of Hurricane Dorian-ravaged Bahamas.

Finegan K-Kids elect officers

K-Kids at Joseph Finegan Elementary School is a Beaches Kiwanis sponsored service organization for fourth- and fifth-graders which develops character, inclusiveness, caring and leadership through service to home, school and community.

Ribbons mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Purple ribbons have been tied on palm trees in Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach by city officials, police and volunteers to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In 2018, there were 7,105 domestic violence crimes reported in Duval County, including 13 deaths.

Sea & Sky draws crowds

The annual Sea & Sky Spectacular drew huge crowds to the Beaches Oct. 26 and 27, with most looking up to see vintage planes, sky jumpers and the Navy's Blue Angels flying team. A few showers doused some spectators, but crowds remained large each day.
