Atlantic Beach plants 20 trees

Twenty trees were planted recently in the Royal Palms area of Atlantic Beach as part of the city's comprehensive community tree-planting program spearheaded by the Environmental Stewardship Committee.

First Beaches Go Green High School Club launched

Ponte Vedra High School students launched the first Beaches Go Green High School Club at a club fair. The club will present eco-friendly lessons and partner with other school clubs to support green efforts including recycling.

Dunes keep beach intact

Shore protection projects kept the shoreline safe during Hurricane Dorian. Coastal engineer Kevin Bodge, who oversees shoreline protection for Duval County, said Sept. 5 that he assessed nine miles of shoreline here and found everything “looks really, really good.

Sing Out Loud Festival starts Sept. 6

The Sing Out Loud Festival will be held Sept. 6 through Sept. 29 at various venues around St. Augustine. The festival will feature 310 performers ranging in genres from indie rock, Americana, blues and hip-hop to bluegrass, punk rock, jazz and comedy.

Rutherford honors Korean War veterans

Congressman John Rutherford recognized Fleet Landing Korean War veterans with the South Korean Ambassador’s Peace Medal Aug. 14 at Fleet Landing. Recipients of the award were Dr. Gene Alvarez, the late Charles Steck (his wife, Peggy, accepted his award), Duane St. John and Charles Williamson.

BookMark celebrates 29 years

Ocean Palms converts library

The Ocean Palms PTO moved forward with an $80,000 renovation to update its library over the summer. Parents and staff boxed books and crews installed new tables, chairs, flooring and paint.
