Friends of PV library holding annual dinner meeting

The Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library’s Annual Dinner Meeting is set for Thursday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Marsh Landing Country Club. Local author, businessman and amateur historian Neil McGuiness is the keynote speaker.

Arrest made in sexual battery case

A 58-year-old homeless man identified by police as a sex offender from South Carolina was arrested Dec. 23, 10 days after he reportedly sexually battered a woman inside her south Jacksonville Beach apartment. Jacksonville Beach police reported that Fred Ellis Jr.

Revived cat is ready for adoption

Mayport Cats is looking for a home for a special foster cat whose story includes a brush with death, a period of uncertainty and a new type of surgery.

Clean up continues after Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma brought 10 inches of rain and gusty winds as it passed near the Beaches area early Sept. 11, toppling fences and trees throughout the community.

Bridges closed

Based on deteriorating conditions and indicators from the National Weather Service, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has begun the process of closing the four bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway – Wonderwood Expressway; Atlantic Blvd.; Beach Blvd.; and J. Turner Butler Blvd. at this time.

Joint meeting set to discuss impact fees

The St. Johns County Board of Commissioners will hold a joint meeting with the St. Johns County School District on Tuesday, Aug. 8, to discuss the 2017 Technical Memorandums prepared for the county and school district, independently, regarding impact fees.

Local police part of National Night Out event

The 5th Annual National Night Out community event will be held at SeaWalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Atlantic Beach Police Department will also participate in the national event at 850 Seminole Road.
