Group works toward fitness and camaraderie among women

Females in Action (FiA) is a nationwide group of women focused on empowerment and developing female friendships through health and wellness. Now in its second month, FiA participants gather at 5:30 a.m. Thursdays at Jarboe Park in Neptune Beach and 7 a.m.

Beaches Go Green, Rotary organize beach cleanup

On Feb. 22, Beaches Go Green partnered with the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach to host a beach and community cleanup at Mickler’s Beach in Ponte Vedra. More than 263 volunteers came together for the cleanup.

Fletcher golf's first African American player walks down memory lane

Shifting tides changed the cultural landscape at the Beaches in the early '60s when African American students once bussed across town were open to attend school on the island where they grew up.

Finegan hosts Valentine's Dance

Joseph Finegan Elementary School K-Kids hosted a Valentine's Dance fund-raiser at the school to support the school’s Accelerated Reading Program and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It was attended by more than 100 Finegan students and their parents, netting a profit of more than $500.

Cub Scouts hold banquet

Local Ponte Vedra Cub Scout Pack 277 held its Annual Blue and Gold Banquet to celebrate the achievements of the boys and girls throughout the year on Feb. 14. This was an awards dinner for the Cub Scouts, where the children receive their badges for advancement to the next level of scouting.

Jax Beach considering taking over pier operations

Jacksonville Beach officials are weighing the possibility of taking over operation of the city’s fishing pier once reconstruction is complete. The storm-battered structure sustained damage during Hurricanes Matthew in 2016 and again the following year during Hurricane Irma.

Beaches Watch hosts city mayors

City officials joined forces recently to update the community on the state of the three Beaches cities. Beaches Watch hosted Mayors Charlie Latham, Ellen Glasser and Elaine Brown at its Feb.

Baptist Beaches gets 5-star rating

Baptist Medical Center Beaches recently received a five-star rating in the national ranking through the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services’ (CMS).

Publix to purchase Lucky's lease

Lucky’s Market in Neptune Beach closed its doors after recently announcing it would shutter all of its 21 Florida locations. Employees left messages of gratitude in the window thanking the Beaches community for the support.
