Deck the Chairs opens Saturday

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Jacksonville Beach. The 8th annual Deck the Chairs opens at 4 p.m. Saturday with a performance by the First Coast Wind Symphony. The perennial family event will be on display from Nov. 21 to Jan.

Thanksgiving Leaders will publish early

The Thanksgiving issues of The Beaches Leader and Ponte Vedra Leader will publish Wednesday, Nov. 25, instead of Thursday, Nov. 26. All advertising deadlines are advanced 24 hours. Editorial submissions, such as letters to the editor and news releases, should be submitted by noon Monday, Nov. 23.

St. Johns County schedules phone calls from Santa

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation is hosting phone calls from Santa this holiday season for children 8 years old or younger. Santa will make his phone calls between 6 and 7:30 p.m. nightly from Dec. 8 through Dec. 10. Parents must register children by Dec. 4 by visiting secure.rec1.

ARTSee & Shop is back

The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville announces the opening of ARTSee & Shop, the second annual pop-up art and cultural engagement gallery at the Markets at Town Center.

Jax Beach City Council reviewing e-scooter usage

Jacksonville Beach officials are working to establish protocols to regulate the use of electric scooters in the downtown area. On Nov. 9, members of the City Council discussed introducing a temporary moratorium to prevent the expansion of similar businesses until regulations are put in place.

'Beyond Bathing Beauties' opens at Beaches Museum

The Beaches Museum is opening a new history exhibit, "Breaking Ground: Beyond Bathing Beauties." The exhibit explores the popular image of beach women as bathing beauties, which only hints at the diverse lives of women at the beaches.

NB police hosting drive-through food distribution

The Neptune Beach Police Department with Farm Share is hosting a drive-through food distribution this Saturday, Nov. 14. The food will be first come, first served. The event will be held at Beaches Chapel Church located at 610 Florida Boulevard in Neptune Beach.

Seniors in need continue to be served by BEAM

The senior program of the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM) moved forward this year in spite of the challenges of COVID-19 and its safety restrictions.
