The Neptune Beach City Hall and Public Works buildings are closed to the public in the wake of a COVID-19 virus outbreak among city staff. Mayor Elaine Brown Jan. 5 said the city was forced to take action to keep the virus from further spreading.

Jax Beach attorney appointed to bench to be sworn in Feb. 1

A Jacksonville Beach attorney was among six new Florida judges appointed last month by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Jeb. T. Branham, who also serves as the special magistrate for Atlantic Beach, will be sworn into the 4th Circuit Court Feb.

St. Johns River Ferry closes for upgrades

The St. Johns River Ferry will be closed for about eight weeks to complete a series of upgrades. It is tentatively expected to reopen March 15, according to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA).

New year means new youth building for Beaches church

There are times when dates and actions come together just right. In 2016, Hurricane Matthew damaged the house in Neptune Beach that First Christian Church at the Beaches was using for its youth ministry. The house, at the corner of First St. and Seagate, was an old 1950s beach house.

Pastor of Neptune Baptist Church remembered by many in community

Neptune Baptist Church has lost its pastor to COVID-19. After a month in intensive care, Pastor Tom Bary succumbed to the virus Dec. 16. Church officials released news of Bary’s death on the church's social media page.
