Chabad @ the Beaches' High Holiday services start Oct. 2

Chabad @ the Beaches has posted its High Holiday services schedule. They will be "warm, friendly and traditional" according to Chabad's executive director, Rabbi Nochum Kurinsky. Membership is not required; everyone is welcome, regardless of background or affiliation.

Surf Classic set for Saturday in Jacksonville Beach

The 26th Annual Sisters of the Sea (SOS) Women’s Surf Classic PRO/AM will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Jacksonville Beach pier. Founded in 1998, the organization encourages women to hit the waves in support of women in the community battling breast cancer.

Fletcher starts season with two wins

The Fletcher High School varsity football team defeated Ribault 42-0 Aug. 23, followed by a 28-14 win over Parker Aug. 30. Fletcher is scheduled to play at Atlantic Coast (1-1) Sept. 6.

New book celebrates legendary Einstein A Go-Go

The small dive club occupied a sliver of the Jacksonville Beach oceanfront nearly 40 years ago. With its shoebox stage and speakers suspended from the ceiling, Einstein A Go-Go (EAGG) attracted scores of the era’s top alternative bands and became a haven for kids yearning for a place to belong.

GTM offering volunteer orientation

The Guana Tolomato Matanzas (GTM) National Estuarine Research Reserve will offer new volunteer orientation Friday, Sept. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interested volunteers will learn about the background and history of the reserve, volunteer opportunities and the benefits of volunteering at GTM.
